A look at the most security cars around the world

A look at the most security cars around the world

Security cars are quite significant nowadays, and they are mostly utilised as a mode of safe transportation by kings, presidents, legislators, and prominent businesses.

There are three armoured car inspection offices in Germany, and they created a consortium of centres for testing materials and designs resistant to attacks (VPAM). During the ballistic test in the examination office in Ulm, Germany, each armoured car was fired 500 times.

Critical flaws are targeted, whether the car or the security systems are attacked with ejection weapons, according to Peter Heussler of the Ulm examination office. Vulnerabilities were assumed and thoroughly validated.

Experts pay close attention to the hinges, edges, welding positions, and adhesives when analysing weaknesses. In addition, the armoured panels and laminated glass that were installed in the car are examined separately first to ensure their ability to resist bullets, using a separate test of materials and materials.

According to VPAM-BRV, the acronym for Ballistic Resistance Vehicle, civilian vehicles are normally classed from VR1 to VR10 based on the thickness of panels and glass.

The VR4 class's protection equipment can withstand bullets from the 44 Magnum handgun, while the VR7 class's automobiles can endure NATO rapid-fire rifle cartridges with a shooting speed of more than 900 m/s, or 3240 km/h.

As for the cars, which have the protection class VR10, they can withstand attacks with hard ammunition with assault rifles.

In addition to the ballistic test, armoured automobiles are subjected to an explosion test, in which a 12.5 kg explosive mixture is detonated adjacent to the car, and a grenade is tossed under the car or placed on top of it in the remaining stages of testing.

Some specialised companies modify luxury saloon cars and off-road models to become special protection vehicles, but the degree of shielding or armoring varies by model; it is not enough to add some safety glass or steel plates to the body of the car to counteract all projectile attacks, but it is preferable to design the armoured car as a protection vehicle from the ground up.

The armoured Mercedes S 680 Guard has the appearance of a luxury S-Class, but it protects its occupants from projectiles fired from shooting rifles, machine guns, and explosives, whether on the side or under the vehicle, and the vehicle is protected by steel plates on the rear and front fenders, as well as protection panels in the doors.

Even in the event of a gas attack, the roof with aramid panels expels the air from the cabin with a modest pressure, preventing the gases from leaking into the car cabin, and the German engineer highlighted that the occupants must swiftly evacuate the danger area and seek safety.

Despite its massive weight, the German car, which weighs 4.5 tonnes, accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and reaches a high speed of 190 km/h. Even if the tyres are damaged, it goes for more than 30 kilometres at a speed of up to 80 km/h.

Since the end of the 1970s, the German company BMW has been producing the 733i High Security (E23) special protection car, as Florian Persak, Head of BMW Protection Vehicles, explained: "The protection cars are redesigned from the ground up, because they adopt a different chassis, which requires a lot of manual work."

Because this contradicts the concept of protection that this category of cars provides, BMW did not reveal any accurate data about the technologies used in special protection cars; BMW stressed that the primary goal is to provide the maximum possible protection with the best possible quality while concealing the identity of the car as much as possible, and BMW currently manufactures hundreds of protection cars manually every year.
