South Korea fines Mercedes-Benz $17 million for carbon emissions
South Korea's anti-monopoly watchdog said Sunday it has fined Mercedes-Benz 20.2 billion won (16.87 million US dollars) for false data on emissions values for its diesel cars and ordered it to take corrective measures.
And South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported that Mercedes-Benz tampered with its pollution mitigation devices by installing illegal software in its cars.
The agency noted that the tampering meant that the vehicles failed to meet permissible emissions levels, but the German carmaker falsified the facts in the information attached to its cars between April 2012 and November 2018.
