To increase the number of their car "Astra" .. Opel intends to appoint workers at its headquarters
German car company Opel plans to hire hundreds of temporary workers at its headquarters in Rüsselsheim, western Germany.
The company, owned by the Stylantis group, seeks through this step to support the increase in production of its new compact car Astra.
A senior company representative said that it is expected to fill a number of excellent-class jobs from a recruitment company, indicating that it will become expected.
It is worth noting that since its acquisition by the French Peugeot Citroen Group in the summer of 2017, Opel has laid off thousands of workers by disbursing end-of-service benefits, partial retirement and early retirement, and parts of the development center have been moved to work abroad under the outsourcing system.
The number of workers who have been laid off since the beginning of 2020 has reached 2,100.
At its main plant in Rüsselsheim, Opel produces its best-selling Astra, as well as its DS4 and the mid-range Insignia, and Opel plans to operate a two-shift system for this purpose.
A year ago, Pegostroen merged with Fiat Chrysler, turning the two groups into the Stylantis Group.
For its part, the Workers' Council welcomed the appointment of temporary workers in the short term to make up for workers' absences related to sick conditions, and said that it had already called for an emergency plan of this kind.
In addition, the council demanded the creation of the largest possible number of permanent jobs and said that "it is not possible to create a second shift shift only by employing temporary workers."
